Training Youth & Family Support Workers
4-week online training in working with children, teenagers, and families
Flexible evening groups · Just 4 hours of live training can change lives for the better.
What this course is about
Most children and teenagers are not “problems”. They are living between tired parents, exam pressure, phones that never sleep, and family stories that are too heavy for their age.
This 4-week online course is for people who want to stand in that space with a bit more wisdom – without taking over, diagnosing, or deciding how people should live.
We walk through real situations from homes and schools in our region, and practise how to respond in a way that is clear, fair, and still kind.
What you will learn
By the end of the four sessions, you will have:
- A way of looking at a child or teenager that includes their whole system – home, school, money, health, stress – not just their behaviour.
- A cleaner, more respectful way of speaking and listening when there is shouting, silence, divorce, or risky behaviour.
- A basic understanding of common struggles you will meet: school refusal, constant fighting at home, withdrawal, phones and online life, smoking or vaping, and more.
- Language to gently name when adult behaviour is hurting a child, without humiliating parents or trying to control their life.
- A simple method for building small, realistic support plans that families might actually follow.
- A more honest sense of your own limits – what fits your role and what needs more specialised help.
You won’t leave as a “specialist”, but you will leave with a clearer head, a better map, and stronger boundaries.
How it runs
- Format: 4 live online sessions (1 hour each).
- Timing: Sessions run in the evening (after work and study hours) to make it easier to attend.
- Style: Practical and case-based, with examples from real MENA family and school life.
- Language: Accessible English – you don’t need perfect English, just enough to follow and join in.
- Cycle: The course runs every month. If you miss one start date, you can join the next group the following month.
Everyone who completes the course receives a certificate of attendance from Nebras Al Hikma Education Consultancy (Hikma Education).
Who might want to join?
You may find this course useful if you:
- Work mainly with teenagers or older children – as a teacher, teaching assistant, school counsellor, mentor, youth worker, or club leader.
- Work in an international or bilingual education setting (international schools, language centres, after-school programmes) and want tools that respect both local culture and mixed backgrounds.
- Are a university student or recent graduate considering education, psychology, or social work and want a realistic taste of this kind of work.
- Are a parent, older sibling, or relative that younger family members already come to with their stories and problems.
- Volunteer in school or community projects and want to feel more confident when young people share difficult situations with you.
You don’t need previous professional training. You do need basic emotional maturity, respect for family life in our region, and a willingness to look honestly at your own style.
